Billboard Latin Music Awards (sering disebut Premios Billboard) adalah ajang penghargaan tahunan yang diselenggarakan oleh majalah Billboard untuk memberikan pengakuan kepada para pelaku musik Latin yang berprestasi. Penghargaan ini merupakan perluasan dari Billboard Music Awards dan menjadi salah satu ajang penghargaan tertua dalam industri musik Latin. Upacara penganugerahan biasanya diselenggarakan bertepatan dengan Latinfest+ (sebelumnya dikenal sebagai Billboard Latin Music Conference).
Sejarah
suntingUpacara penghargaan pertama diselenggarakan pada tahun 1994 di Hotel Intercontinental, Miami, Florida, dengan nama Latin Music Awards. Acara ini dimaksudkan untuk mewakili berbagai genre musik Latin dan mempublikasikan hasilnya melalui Billboard Magazine.
Pemenang ditentukan berdasarkan perolehan poin dari tangga lagu radio dan penjualan ritel Billboard, serta dikategorikan dalam sejumlah subkategori untuk memberikan penghargaan kepada artis, lagu, dan album selama satu periode penilaian tahunan (antara 6 Maret 1993 hingga 5 Maret 1994). Kategori awal meliputi musik pop, tropis/salsa, regional Meksiko, rap, rock, dan jazz.
Pada penyelenggaraan perdana, diperkenalkan pula beberapa penghargaan khusus yang ditentukan oleh komite editorial Billboard, seperti Latin Music Hall of Fame dan Lifetime Achievement Award, yang diberikan kepada tokoh-tokoh berpengaruh dalam industri musik Latin.
Tahun 1996, penghargaan Spirit of Hope Award diperkenalkan sebagai bentuk pengakuan atas kontribusi filantropi dan kemanusiaan luar biasa dari para artis di luar karya musik mereka.
Pada tahun 1997, acara ini untuk pertama kalinya dipandu oleh Daisy Fuentes dan Herb Alpert. Dua tahun kemudian, pada 1999, ajang penghargaan ini disiarkan secara televisi dari Hotel Fontainebleau, Miami Beach, Florida, dengan Daisy Fuentes sebagai pembawa acara.
Sejak tahun 2021, penghargaan Billboard Icon Award, yang sebelumnya hanya diberikan dalam Billboard Music Awards, juga menjadi bagian dari ajang Latin ini. Pada tahun 2022, diperkenalkan pula Legend Award, yang diberikan kepada artis dengan kontribusi besar dalam dunia musik dan memiliki karier yang bertahan lama.
Penyanyi Enrique Iglesias tercatat sebagai artis dengan jumlah penghargaan terbanyak, yaitu 47 penghargaan, sementara Shakira menjadi artis perempuan dengan penghargaan terbanyak, yaitu 44 penghargaan.
