Kodeks Bezae (nama resmi: Codex Bezae Cantabrigensis, diberi kode siglum D^ea atau 05 (dalam penomoran Gregory-Aland), δ 5 (von Soden), adalah sebuah naskah kuno berbentuk kodeks yang memuat sebagian Perjanjian Baru di Alkitab Kristen, yang diperkirakan dibuat pada abad ke-5. Ditulis dalam gaya tulisan uncial pada lembaran vellum. Tulisannya dalam bahasa Yunani dan bahasa Latin (diglot/dwibahasa), terdiri dari bagian-bagian keempat Injil dan Kisah Para Rasul, dengan sebuah fragmen kecil dari Surat 3 Yohanes. Ditulis dalam satu kolom per halaman, Kodeks ini terdiri dari 406 lembar perkamen yang terlestarikan (kemungkinan dari aslinya 534 lembar) berukuran 26 x 21,5 cm, dengan teks Yunani pada halaman sebelah kiri dan teks bahasa Latin di halaman sebelah kanan.^[1] Faksimile digital codex ini tersedia pada Cambridge University Library, yang menyimpan manuskrip asli.^[2]

Tiga baris pertama setiap kitab ditulis dengan huruf-huruf berwarna merah, dan kemudian tinta hitam dan merah bergantian sampai akhir kitab. Sebanyak 11 orang (G, A, C, B, D, E, H, F, J¹, L, K) telah mengkoreksi naskah ini antara abad ke-6 sampai abad ke-12.^[3] Teks ini ditulis secara kolometrik dan penuh dengan hiatus. Teks bahasa Yunani kodeks ini mengandung beberapa kesalahan penyalinan, misalnya kesalahan metathesis: dalam Yohanes 1:3, ΕΓΕΝΕΤΟ diubah menjadi ΕΝΕΓΕΤΟ; dalam Kisah Para Rasul 1:9, ΥΠΕΛΑΒΕΝ menjadi ΥΠΕΒΑΛΕΝ.

Sejumlah bentuk nomina sacra ditulis dengan singkatan: ΙΗΣ (Ιησους), ΧΡΣ (Χριστος), ΠΑΡ (πατηρ), ΣΤΗ (σταυρωθη), tetapi tidak untuk μητερ, υιος, σωτηρ, ανθρωπος, ουρανος, δαυιδ, Ισραηλ, Ιηρουσαλημ, yang ditulis lengkap.^[4]

Asal-usul codex ini masih diperdebatkan.^[5][6] Diyakini diperbaiki di Lyon pada abad ke-9, karena dibuktikan dari tinta khusus yang dipakai untuk menulis halaman-halaman tambahan. Dirawat baik-baik selama beberapa abad di perpustakaan biara St Irenaeus di Lyon. Manuskrip ini dipakai untuk menilai bacaan-bacaan yang diperdebatkan, mungkin di Italia, pada Konsili Trento, dan pada waktu yang hampir sama dikutip untuk edisi Perjanjian Baru bahasa Yunani karya Robert Estienne (=Stephanus).

Selama perang agama di Prancis pada abad ke-16, ketika analisis tekstual menjadi dibutuhkan di kalangan para reformator Protestan, naskah ini dipindahkan dari Lyon pada tahun 1562 dan diserahkan kepada sarjana Protestan Theodore Beza, sahabat dan penerus Calvin, yang kemudian memberikannya kepada Universitas Cambridge, dalam jaminan keamaan di Inggris, pada tahun 1581, sehingga codex ini memiliki nama ganda. Naskah ini terus disimpan di Cambridge University Library (Nn. II 41).^[7][8]

John Mill menata urutan dan Wettstein menyalin tulisan (1716) teks kodeks ini. Keduanya membuat suatu edisi Perjanjian Baru Yunani, tetapi pekerjaan mereka tidak rapi. Penyalinan yang jauh lebih baik dilakukan tahun 1732 oleh John Dickinson.

Frederick Henry Ambrose Scrivener menyunting teks codex ini pada tahun 1864 (menulis ulang teks dari codex)^[9] dan tahun 1899 (faksimile fotografi).

Codex Bezae ini bernilai sedemikian pentingnya sehingga suatu colloquium diadakan di Lunel, Herault, pada tanggal 27–30 Juni 1994 seluruhnya hanya membahas codex ini.^[10] Makalah-makalah membahas banyak pertanyaan yang berkaitan dengan pemahaman atas penggunaan Injil dan Kisah Para Rasul pada masa awal Kekristenan, dan naskah Perjanjian Baru..

Dalam naskah ini urutan Injil mengikuti tradisi Western: Injil Matius, Injil Yohanes, Injil Lukas dan Injil Markus, di mana hanya Injil Lukas yang lengkap; kemudian setelah sejumlah halaman hilang, diikuti oleh Surat 3 Yohanes (bahasa Latin) dan memuat sebagian Kisah Para Rasul.

Jenis teks Yunani tergolong unik, dengan banyak interpolasi yang tidak dijumpai pada naskah-naskah lain, juga ada sejumlah penghilangan yang istimewa, dan kecenderungan mendadak untuk mengubah frasa kalimat. Di samping satu naskah Yunani ini, juga ditemukan dalam versi-versi Vetus Latina (pra-Vulgata) — seperti yang dilihat dalam bagian bahasa Latin di sini — dan dalam versi Suriah maupun Armenia.Bezae merupakan wakil utama naskah Yunani^[11] dari jenis Teks Western. Manuskrip ini menunjukkan ruang gerak tradisi manuskrip yang masih dapat ditemukan pada abad ke-5 dan ke-6, di sekitar tarikh codex ini.

Tidak ada konsensus untuk menjelaskan banyak persoalan teks bahasa Yunani yang ada. Karena bagian bahasa Latin kadang kala bersesuaian dengan Codex Bobiensis dan Codex Veronensis, naskah ini dijadikan saksi untuk teks yang tidak lebih tua dari tahun 250 M serta "melestarikan suatu bentuk kuno dari teks Old Latin."^[12] Persoalan konformitas telah membebani penggunaan Codex Bezae oleh para sarjana Alkitab. Pada umumnya teks bahasa Yunani dianggap sebagai saksi yang tidak bisa dipercaya dan diperlakukan sebagai "saksi pendukung penting di mana ia bersesuaian dengan naskah-naskah kuno lainnya" sebagaimana diakui terbuka oleh salah satu pranala di bawah ini.

Sejumlah ciri luar biasa:

• Matius 16:2b-3 ada dan tidak ditandai sebagai "meragukan" atau "tidak jelas".
• Markus 16 memuat salah satu akhiran panjang.
• Lukas 22:43f dan Pericope adulterae ada dan tidak ditandai apapun.
• Yohanes 5:4 tidak ada
• Teks dalam Kisah Para Rasul kira-kira sepersepuluh lebih panjang daripada yang umumnya diterima.
