Program perayaan seratus tahun kemerdekaan Meksiko pada September 1910, menegaskan kesinambungan sejarah Miguel Hidalgo, Benito Juárez "Hukum," dan Porfirio Díaz, "Kedamaian," dari 1810 sampai 1910.

Sejarah tertulis Meksiko mencakup lebih dari tiga ribu tahun. Pertama kali dihuni lebih dari 13.000 tahun lalu,[1] Meksiko tengah dan selatan (disebut Mesoamerika) menyaksikan kedigdayaan dan keruntuhan peradaban pribumi yang kompleks. Meksiko kemudian berkembang menjadi masyarakat multikultural. Peradaban-peradaban Mesoamerika mengembangkan sistem penulisan glif, mencatat sejarah politik penaklukan dan penguasa. Sejarah Mesoamerika sebelum kedatangan Eropa disebut era prahispanik atau era pra-Columbus. Setelah Kemerdekaan Meksiko dari Kekaisaran Spanyol pada tahun 1821, kekacauan politik melanda bangsa ini. Prancis, dengan bantuan konservatif Meksiko, merebut kontrol pada tahun 1860an selama Kekaisaran Meksiko Kedua tetapi kemudian dikalahkan. Akhir abad ke-19 dicirikan dengan pertumbuhan yang tenang dan makmur, tetapi Revolusi Meksiko tahun 1910 menyebabkan perang saudara yang sulit. Dengan ketenangan pulih pada tahun 1920an, ekonomi tumbuh dengan stabil sementara populasi terus meningkat dengan cepat.
